Drag Panel (2016)
Janette Beckman Punk-Rock, Hip-Hop Mashup (2016)
Bowie, Friends and Cabaret (2016)
The Drag Panel festival sought to allow an open forum to emerge within Chelsea College of Arts for a week long festival which focused on the fabulous yet contentious realm of cross dressing. Split between the opulent view of the Banqueting Hall and the underground vibe of the Punctum gallery a glitter festooned programme of creative events was not to be missed. The first Drag Panel “Drag Queens” was launched by Turner prize winning artist and Chancellor of UAL Grayson Perry. Co-hosted by Natalie Anastasiou. The following day the Drag King Panel was hosted by Liberty Sadler in the Punctum Gallery, looking at drag from a female perspective. The week ended with a Drag Cabaret in the Punctum Gallery which showcased some of London's best drag talent.
Janette Beckman;s photography spans Punk in London and Hip Hop in New York. In 2014 Janette launched her US Mash-Up series conceived with artists ad designer Cey Adams, combining her iconic Hip Hop images with some of New York's best known Graffiti artists. For the launch of Janette's UK Mash-Up series she decided to expand the collection to include artists, designers and musicians who reinterpreted portraits from her Legendary British Punk collection. Her UK Mash-Ups were exhibited in 2016 in the Punctum Gallery for the first time. Natalie Anastasiou was one of the hosts, curator and organiser of the show that saw 250 on just its opening night.
A celebration of David Bowie, his visit to Andy Warhol's Pork at the Roundhouse and his early New York friends like Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop, with pictures and reminiscences from the late Leee Black Childers and others. The photography acted as a backdrop to a week of live events, from workshops with the Islington Twins, poetry from James Browne and ending the week with a Cabaret that featured dance, live music, magic and monologues.
